Sensor Repair
Sensors work to monitor your car on a number of levels. Some guage heat while others control speed. A sensor's job is to let you know that there is a problem in your car, but how do you know when there is a problem with your sensor?
Camshaft Position Sensors
Also known as the Cylinder Identification Sensor, the engine rotates this sensor to signal to the Electronic Control Module that the cyliner is approaching Top Dead Center and the timing of the injection pulse can be determined.
Crankshaft Position Sensors
A crankshaft position sensor is designed to record the rate at which the crankshaft is spinning, and consists of a toothed metal disk mounted on the crankshaft and a stationary detector that covers a magnetic coil that the current passes through.
Vehicle Speed Sensors
There is only one Vehicle Speed Sensor or VSS in your car--the Permanent Magnet (PM) VSS. It is located on the transmission case in the speedometer cable opening. It measures the number of pulses which increase with vehicle speed, and is used to help operate idle air control, cruise control and deceleration.
